Congratulations to Steve Forster, the team at CL:AIRE, the project funders and everyone else involved for producing our own industry guidance on how to apply the Control of Abestos Regulations 2012 to asbestos contaminated soils (ACS). (For reference this document is known as the Joint Industry Working Group Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition (C&D) Materials guidance titled “Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012: Interpretation for Managing and Working with Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition materials: Industry Guidance but fortunately has also been given the shortened name CAR-SOILTM ).
This document addresses some of those difficult points such as what constitutes trace levels of asbestos and the interpretation of the licensing regime as it applies to ACS. It also provides links to other useful guidance such as the Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive (NIHSE) memo on the Decontamination of asbestos contaminated plant.
