Quality protocols (QPs) explain when a waste derived material can be regarded as a non-waste product and no longer subject to waste controls.
On 1 September 2016 the following paragraph was added to the Guidance on the rules for all QPs which included a link to the legal definition of waste:
“If you’re the producer or holder of a material and you’re unsure whether its waste or not, you can use the definition of waste general guide to assess the status of your material. A material can include any substance or object.”
