Asbestos doesn’t make the top three….

…contaminants that most commonly cause land in England to be designated Contaminated Land, despite its widespread historic use. This is according to the recently published “Dealing with contaminated land in England A review of progress from April 2000 to December 2013 with Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.” The most frequently identified substance on determining sites was arsenic, with lead and benzo(a)pyrene following closely behind. Only 16 sites identified asbestos as the cause or one of the causes of determining the site compared with 280 sites for arsenic.
